Concentrate
on the candle flame. This is all
what you need to do. This exercise
do not require anything else
from you. Simply focus on the
candle flame. Allow yourself to
be hypnotized by the flame.
Stare at it. Gaze at it. Focus
on it. That's all.
Now,
I am sure that by now you realized
that this request only looks
simple. It is similar as with
bath meditation – you can not
imagine it until you try it. Probably
you realized that no matter how
much you try to focus on the
flame, after a while your look will
tend to drift away. Probably
some thoughts may come up.
Although your body is capable to
sit still for hours in front of
TV, probably now is getting
restless.
Finally,
you will realize that your mind
is resting while you focus on
the candle flame. Your thoughts
may drift away to some place far
away or long ago. Gradually you
will feel you senses registering
noise that you regularly do not
hear. You will feel your breath
comes in and out.
The
list of feelings and sensations
will be much longer during the
candle meditation. Actually,
every person should be able to
write down his/her own list of
sensations during the candle
meditation. The goal of the
meditation is to make you
experience you inner feelings
and tendencies that are always
present within you. Only when we
focus on our thoughts or mind,
these feelings will become
apparent. This is the beginning
of meditation.
By concentration of the most of
our mind to the one spot, we are
giving the opportunity to our
spirit to show off it the unique
way. The feelings hat you star
to experience can not be
controlled, since they are
coming from the depth. In time
you will learn to trust to this
depth.
The
candle meditation is one of the most
elementary meditation exercises,
but it should not be exercised
on the daily basis.
