Eight Causes of Tiredness

Eight Causes of Tiredness 2/2       Posted: Jan 2010

Fatigue can reduce your operational efficiency, concentration, affect negatively on your work performance, and even in private life. Recognize the pitfalls of fatigue and learn where your energy goes.

Depression

Depression causes many physical symptoms such as fatigue, headaches and loss of appetite, a few things that makes a vicious circle. Many patients respond to antidepressant therapy, however, it must be implemented in conjunction with psychotherapy.

Hypothyroidism

Thyroid is a small gland located in the bottom of the neck that controls metabolism, ie the speed at which the body converts food into energy. Hypothyroidism is a condition where the thyroid gland is less active and produces too little of its hormones. Affected person feels slow, tired, and often, and gain in excess.

If the blood exam confirms low levels of thyroid hormones, the doctor will prescribe a synthetic hormone.

Too much caffeine

The optimal intake of caffeine varies from person to person: for someone three cups of coffee a day are not enough, while another person will be very bad from too much caffeine. Caffeine is a stimulant that enhances alertness and concentration in moderate quantities. If you drink between four and seven cups of coffee a day you may have insomnia, nervousness, restlessness, nausea, stomach problems, rapid heartbeat and headaches.

If you use caffeine to solve the lack of sleep, you will enter into a vicious circle. For example, drinking beverages with caffeine to stay awake during the day will interfere with your night's sleep.

Diabetes

Sugar in diabetics remains in the bloodstream and is not absorbed into cells where it can be converted into energy. The result is a body which has no "fuel", despite the fact that it brought enough food. If you are feeling troubled constant fatigue, consult your doctor for possible diabetes.

Rules of diabetic diet must be strictly respected in order to keep the disease under control. Insulin therapy, drugs that will help the body to process sugar and lifestyle changes are required.
